Alegeh Emerges New NBA President

After many months of vigorous campaign by candidates jostling for the position of the Nigerian Bar Association president, Mr. Augustine Alegeh (SAN), has finally been elected the President of the association. He defeated four other candidates, who also vied for the position. After the votes were counted, Alegeh polled 691 votes while Mr. Oladele Adeshina (SAN) polled 370 votes to come second. Adesina was followed by Mrs. Olufunke Adekoya (SAN) with 255 votes, while Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) had 126 votes.The last candidate, Mr. Osas Erhabor scored 17 votes. With the election, Alegeh becomes the 27th NBA president. He is of the Benin Branch of the NBA. A total number of 1,728 delegates were registerd out of whom 1,482 were accredited. Other members of the incoming NBA executive are Francis Ekere, 1st Vice President, Taiwo .O. Taiwo, 2nd Vice President and Adetokunboh Oluwole, 3rd Vice President. Former chairman, Abuja branch, Mr. Afam Osigie, was elected as general-secretary while Gbolahan Gbadamosi was elected the publicity secretary.
