Security Officials Prevent Unemployed Graduate From Committing Suicide

A young man simply identified as Omotayo, an unemployed graduate of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, was, yesterday, prevented from killing himself in frustration. Omotayo caused a stir along Barracks Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when he deliberately jumped out on a speeding bus, expecting to be crushed to death by other vehicles, only to be avoided by motorists, who drove their cars away from the spot. According to some policemen on patrol, Omotayo had, on that fateful day, run to the prison premises along the same road, leading to the Akwa Ibom State Government House, asking the security officials on duty, to either kill him or make way for him to go rot in the basement. “We just saw somebody, well dressed and wearing a tie – he did not look like someone who was mentally disturbed – running towards us. He made us become instantly alert, but the next thing we heard him say was: ‘Shoot me, shoot me! I want to die. I am tired of this world. We were still facing him with our weapons when he scrambled towards us, asking us to allow him to go die inside the prison,” one of the prison officials told LEADERSHIP FRIDAY. Omotayo was later overpowered by the police, who intervened to prevent the situation from getting out of hand. It took the police some time to arrest Omotayo, debrief him and get him on a bus heading towards the Ibom Plaza Ring-road.
