Police Arrest a Man in Ogun For Beheading Infant, Raping Mother

The Ogun State Police Command have arrested a Nigerien, Mamodou Bashir Ibrahim, for raping a woman and beheading her two-year-old male infant in Owode Egba, Obafemi-Owode local government area of the state. LEADERSHIP FRIDAY gathered that the middle-aged suspect committed the crime after he had had carnal knowledge of the infant’s mother, who had gone to ease herself in a nearby bush. Unknown to her, she was trailed by the suspect. An eye-witness who pleaded anonymity said that the suspect pounced on the woman who had her baby tied to her back and dragged them into an uncompleted building where he raped the woman, stabbed her and killed the boy before he severed his head. A resident who suspected the movement of the suspect was said to have trailed him to the building where he committed the alleged crime, but admitted that the suspect was gone, leaving the woman with the headless body of her baby. When the suspect was eventually arrested, he led the men of the Criminal Investigation Department, CID, from the state police command to the scene, in search of the infant’s severed head. The head could not be found, but the knife was found in the bush. The police public relations officer, Deputy Superintendent Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspect who fled the area to Ibafo, immediately after he committed the crime, was later arrested with the assistance of some of the community’s leaders. Adejobi, also revealed that upon further interrogation, the suspect revealed that he had sold the head of the boy to a woman in Ibadan, Oyo State. He added that the detectives from the state police command have launched a man-hunt for the buyer of the infant’s severed head. The suspect, who was covered in blood, when questioned by newsmen at the scene of the crime, confessed to raping the woman and beheading her son, and casting the head into the bush. He also informed the detectives that there was a woman in Ibadan whom he was working with. All efforts by the police detectives to recover the severed head of the infant at the scene of the crime proved abortive. The police, however, saved the suspect from being lynched by a mob who had gathered in the area.
