Police Arrest 33 Suspects For Alleged Murder, Kidnapping In Edo

The Edo Police Command on Wednesday said it had arrested 33 suspects for various offences. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, disclosed this at a news conference in Benin. He said that the suspects were arrested for alleged murder, kidnapping, rape, defilement, unlawful possession of firearms, armed robbery, fraud, impersonation and cult-related activities. Adebanjo said the command was determined to rid the state of criminals to sustain the peace it was enjoying in the last few months. The commissioner, who described the increasing cases of cultism in the state as disturbing, said the command would not spare anyone found using cult members to kill. “Killing is a serious offence, we will not condone it. If you kill somebody, we will get you. I am warning those sponsoring the cultists to desist,” Adebanjo said. He also called on the people to give useful information to the police to effectively fight crime. Items recovered from the suspects include seven guns, 14 cartridges and eight rounds of live ammunition. Two of the suspects were arrested for alleged impersonation of army lieutenant and captain, respectively. They were allegedly seen in army uniforms going about from one hotel to another claiming to be army officers.
